Who we are
The New Economic Justice Organizing Project is the strategic next step of the economic justice work of Step Up Louisiana, carrying forward the worker organizing and the Organizer in Training (OIT) program with 13 staff and a core group of members to be more vigorous in our issue area, expand statewide, and train thousands of organizers capable of transforming the economy of Louisiana. We will relaunch in summer 2026.
What we do:
Leadership development: including our Organizer in Training Program, educational workshops, Political Information Team (PIT Crew), research reports and policy analysis, and public speaking training.
Community Organizing: community meetings, door-to-door outreach, Faith Labor Alliance coalition building, and committee building.
Civic Engagement: advocacy, phone banking and text banking, nonpartisan voter education, public comment, panels, and forums.
Worker Organizing and Workplace Standards Programs: Workers Bill of Rights, Healthy Workplace Initiative, enforcement of existing laws, worksite outreach, support for workers committees and unions, workplace policy research, and employer outreach.
